Welcome to a safari of career exploration.  This unit was designed to promote awareness in high school freshman students regarding career choices and how those choices will affect them the rest of their life.

State Standards: (The only ones I found relevant to my topic were in English)

Grades 9-12 Reading Standards:

    1. Use various pre-reading strategies to increase comprehension what is read. (example: skimming, scanning, word-webbing, scaffolding, questioning)
    2. Confirm, reject, or revise predictions made about text.
    3. Connect and synthesize main ides and concepts to determine relationships with other sources or topics.
    4. Extend comprehension by combining new information with prior knowledge.
    5. Evaluate new information in relationship to past experience/knowledge.
    6. Analyze the effect personal knowledge has on the interpretation of text.

28. Use the reading process to understand directions and procedures. (Example: directions for using software, maps, etc.)

29. Read and follow instructions to use computer software, assemble or construct models or equipment, or complete a project.

Grades 9-12 Writing Standards:

    1. Distinguish between clearly written sentences and sentences that contain errors in expression or construction. (example: fragments)
    2. Use correct spelling, language, punctuation, and capitalization in final copy.
    3. Use available technology for editing and revising.
    4. Employ precise language and technical vocabulary to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
    1. Revise for ideas, paragraph structure, sentence structure, and word choice.
    2. Use correct form when citing secondary sources. (example: MLA, APA)

15. Organize information to support the purpose of the writing.
