Grade Level:  9th Grade Career "Safari" Unit           

Competencies:

    1.  Gather personal facts about oneself in order to increase                    self-knowledge and set goals.

    2.  Measure personal skills for employability.

    3.  Identify careers that compliment one's skills, talents, abilities,                  and long-range career and lifestyle goals.

Preparation:

Activities: The activities are identified in the lesson plan below.

Evaluation:

    This is the type of unit where there are no right or wrong answers.   Students are evaluated on participation and doing the assignments completely and on time.  Projects to be included in the evaluation are the reflection/reaction papers, emailing of answers to questions, wish list poster and multimedia project to complete the unit.

Follow-Up: When these students are sophomores, they have to write a research paper on a career of their choice and job shadow in that field.  Even though, this is a year prior to the research paper, this experience will prepare them to choose a field compatible to their experiences and likes.
